The Price of Wales is a pub in Hinckley that regularly played host to Sunday Soul, an event that took place usually on the last Sunday of every month.

Starting mid-afternoon, the event was primarily a wind-down after the weekend's excesses. Organised by one of Hinckley's soul stalwarts, Pete Ankers, it was essentially an "open-mike" event which means if you'd got vinyl, you could turn up with a box and there would be a good chance you'd get a spot!

There was no music policy at this venue. If it was a bootleg, a re-release or a £1000 original, it didn't matter. It was the quality of the music that counted - which was what made this venue an absolute gem. You never knew what was going to hit the decks next, and believe me, sometimes you'd be astounded at what people had in their record box!

Regular appearances by Les Norman and Rob Gray perked the event up with their seemingly endless supply of quality originals, and even the humble author of this website got a chance to spin a few tunes!

As an extra bonus, occasionally there was a full-on northern soul night staged in the upstairs function room. Small, but perfectly formed, there was a good dance floor that would hold about 20 or so, which was just the job for a locals gathering.
